Sjoerd J. Finnema obtained his Pharm.D. at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands and received his Ph.D. in experimental neuroscience from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2014, he joined the Yale University PET Center, and was assistant professor adjunct between 2017-2021. He is currently Senior Principal Research Scientist at AbbVie, where he develops and applies imaging methodology to enable drug discovery and development. His main research interests include the development and translational validation of novel PET radioligands and their application in clinical studies. He has long experience in developing PET methodology suitable for measuring changes in neurotransmitter release and has been exploring the use of SV2A PET as an approach to examine synaptic density. More recent work includes radioligand development for misfolded protein aggregates. He has received several honors for his work, including the BIC Young Investigator Award from the SNMMI and the Niels Lassen Award from the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism.
